THE BIKES
THE RED DRAGON
A 1994 Honda Goldwing GL1500 with a two-person California Sidecars Friendship III attached, the Red Dragon looks a bit like a carnival ride that escaped the carousel. But this 3-wheeled RV hits amusement out of the park. Fully loaded with four people and gear, it carves mountain roads and cruises the interstate effortlessly. A separate radio and heated seats in the sidecar keep kids cozy and entertained on cool nights, but we all stay connected through our SENA bluetooth helmet communication system. And Alenna stays warm perched on the back seat of the Goldwing in her Warm & Safe heated riding gear.
JASON'S HONDA VFR
Jason's countless bikes over the years have always had Honda V-4s as their anchor. This 1998 VFR800Fi is the third, and flashiest, of the set, which started with a gently used 1984 VF700S "Sabre" that a beloved friend bought him on a whim. Through college and after, Jason put more than 100,000 miles on the Sabre, crossing the USA on it twice before selling it in perfect running condition to a friend in Colorado. Bulletproof.
ALENNA'S HONDA HAWK
Alenna's cult classic 1989 Honda NT650 "Hawk" is the first motorcycle she has owned, and it's the one she'll never let go. British and Italian bikes frequently draw her affectionate glances, but the Hawk is an untemperamental bike that's carried her over mountains, across deserts and served workaday commuter duty, including an early brush with the paement. Perhaps one day a Moto Guzzi will grace this page, but for now this is perfection.
BATMAN AND ROBIN'S SIDECAR RIG
Bruce Wayne was no slouch when it came to motorcycles, and the Dynamic Duo knew the virtues of the sidecar. Parked in the shadow of the Batmobile, the Batcycle never received the notoriety it deserves, so as we fight the super-villain of mediocrity and embrace sidecar adventures of our own, we pay our respect. Thank you, Petersen Automotive Museum, for keeping the Batcycle at the ready. We’ll take on Joker next time we're in Los Angeles. Check out this short video to see it in action.
